Compliance Overview

A Secure Data Enclave

With Soteria, research sponsors can feel confident to entrust their data with UArizona investigators, and investigators have the peace of mind knowing Soteria makes it easy to be responsible data stewards. The enclave’s integrated computational infrastructure and managed services collectively reduce the institutional risk and compliance burden associated with projects that rely on Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Protected Health Information (PHI) and other types of protected data.

Researchers who use Soteria benefit from having a team of data experts dedicated to HIPAA, PHI and PII compliance and security behind them. Soteria leverages the capabilities of protected data projects managed by the University of Arizona and complements the Controlled and Unclassified Information (CUI) Environment, which provides NIST 800-171 compliance.

Secure Network Perimeter

Soteria operates behind a boundary that safeguards the internal network and enables researchers to collect and share data on web-based applications securely and on scale. This perimeter limits access to vetted users without adding complexity to the credentialing process. Research teams access Soteria using their UA NetID.
